A booklet featuring the works and legacy of Bonnie MacLean: a personal design hero of mine, who was a successful concert poster designer in the psychedelic rock era of the 1960s and 70s.
MOOD BOARDs
I started by collecting Bonnie's most recognizable and prominent work to use as references for the design and style of the booklet. I also put together inspiration for the psychedelic type reflected in Bonnie's poster designs.
INITIAL CONCEPT
My original idea was to create fluid spreads where Bonnie's poster designs would flow into the body copy surrounded by my own artwork that emulated her style. In execution however, it came off too busy and deviated from having her actual work as the focus.
FINAL
The final concept resulted in much cleaner spreads and stronger emphasis on her posters. The display type still calls out to the psychedelic aesthetic of her artwork.
