WILD BOUND
A packaging design concept for Wild Bound: a fictional hard cider brand that embraces experimental and fun flavor varieties with a youthful spirit.
MOOD BOARD

Starting with a mood board, I found inspiration in bright colors, trendy illustrations, and design elements like line and pattern.
SKETCHES

I was leaning towards wordmarks while sketching logo concepts because I knew they wouldn't get lost against a heavily illustrated can design.

INITIAL CONCEPTS
To communicate the explorative flavors of the brand, I wanted to convey either an adventurous vibe with a playful, outdoorsy concept in the first design, or more of an experimental feel with the second design using expressive lines and patterns.

DRAFTS
I decided to move forward with the second design concept because it offered a stronger and more unique brand identity than the first concept- the full color illustrations and style seemed to already be prevalent in other cider brands.
Version 1

I created two flavor variations, each playing off of the use of line and pattern in the original. I then decided to remove the checkered strip and feature a panel along the side of each can that carried over the pattern from the front while reinforcing the flavor variety.
Version 2

final
For the final can packaging design, I softened the black that was used in the type and illustrations, removed the black fill from the window containing the description on the back, and changed the panel color along the side to gold all to allow for more breathing room and to emphasize the main illustration on the front of the can.
